The STEP Region is part of an area known for the most fertile soil in the province. The region is home to many cattle, dairy, hog and poultry farms. The Towns of St. Paul and Elk Point support the agriculture industry with agriculture suppliers, including major farm equipment dealers and suppliers serving grains and livestock producers. The region’s agriculture sector remains strong in 2021: Over 670 farms produce coarse grains such as wheat, barley and canola. Pea field acreages exceeded 8,000, an increase of 35% over 2016. Gross Farm Receipts reached nearly $153 million and the value of Livestock & Poultry is an impressive $151 million.
